SpareRIBs Chartering Guide

Many RIB owners consider chartering their boats to earn money - but few are prepared for the commercial realities of RIB hire.

For your benefit we have put together a guide. Please note that it is written mainly for UK RIB owners and deals only with UK regulations, although the general priciples are the same anywhere.

A RIB suitable for Chartering should be correctly coded to MCA specifications
SpareRIBs Coding Guide
Coding is essentially a safety issue. It is a system of assessing vessels and then restricting them to waters where they can safely operate. The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) have devised seven levels of classifaction (Categories 6 - 0 ) Starting from requirements for operation within inshore waters to venturing ocean wide.

In general terms these terms define the geographical areas in which the charter vessel is allowed to operate, weather conditions, equipment required and crew qualifications.

We have lots of advice on coding in the Coding section >>
